No other entrant will likely have clocked up more racing miles than Wolfgang Kaufmann at the Nürburgring Classic.

The man from the Westerwald competed in three different races for three different series, with two different cars.

For starters, there was the Cup & Tourenwagne Tropy where a BMW Z4 M Coupe was his weapon of choice. Kaufmann, who had taken part with the then still rather „stock“ Z4 M in 2017, found the 14 lap sprint race on Friday afternoon enjoyable: „Compared to last year, the Z4 has shed significant weight and has been significantly improved in terms of chassis and engine performance“ – all this development paid off, with a 3rd place that was also Kaufmann's maiden podium result in the Cup & Tourenwagen Trophy.

The remaining weekend was all about Kremer Racing's Porsche 911 RS 3.0. Kaufmann would drive this car in FHR 100 Meilen Rennen and the 3hr Langstrecken Rennen for the Youngtimer Trophy.

The 100 mile race saw Kaufmann and his team mate, Kremer Racing owner Eberhard Baunach, takethe start from 10th position and fight their way up to 7th position over thr course of 26 laps that took a little under an hour, including a scheduled pit stop. They also won their class for cars up to 3000cc.

The endurance race used the combination of Grand Prix course and Nordschleife, the „Gesamtstrecke“ of the Nürburgring. Despite of its rather more „sedate“ performance in comparison with the Porsche RSR on the grid, the RS 3.0 with Kaufmann at the helm nevertheless worked its way up the order. In the finishing stages of the race, the Kremer Racing team held 4th place overall and the class lead. Then a driveshaft issue forced the 911 back to the pits. However, all direct competitors in their class win also experienced technical woes, so the class win was safe.

With two class wins and a podium result, in the bag, Wolfgang Kaufmann won't stay away from the Ring for very long. This coming weekend, Friday will see the free practice session before the third round of the VLN season where Kaufmann will once again be at the controls of Kremer Racing's Group H Porsche 997 K3.
